How to Hit A BULLSEYE in 2014!

Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution?

I remember the first time I ever made one.  I was sixteen.  It was New Year’s Eve and I left the family party before everyone else and walked home to an empty house.

In that quiet space I did some thinking and visualized what life would be like if I changed one of my habits and then I set a personal goal.

It’s the first time I remember being so intentional and so specific about something I wanted to accomplish.

In the months that followed I was so focused on the vision that I never once gave into the temptation to break that promise to myself.

In that process I learned a valuable lesson:

Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.  Thomas Carlyle

2014 is just around the corner.

  • Do you sometimes wish you were a better leader, parent, or friend?
  • Do you have a bad habit you’d like to break?
  • Do you have a dream you’d like to be living?

Then make a commitment to yourself to find a quiet corner before the New Year begins and visualize what you want your life to look like.  Then set a couple of goals to get there.

Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing. Thomas Edison

  1. Loved the post Chery! This past year, we set only one goal. The coolest thing is that we kept with it and actually accomplished it. Our goal was to complete 300 workouts during the course of the year. Yesterday, we completed our 303rd workout! It was quite a thrill to have been able to do it. We (my husband and I) decided to post our progress throughout the year on Facebook. Interesting to see how many people cheered us on (and most of them did not cheer us on on Facebook – instead, we’d see them elsewhere and they’d comment on it). We’ve been thinking about what to challenge ourselves on in 2014. Thank you!

    • Joy – Thank you for sharing your story! I love that you referenced the people that follow what you are doing but don’t engage on Social Media and instead wait to tell you in person – sometimes months later. Don’t you love it when that happens? There is a part of me that is very aware that I struggled to engage publically on Social Media before I started Giana Consulting, so I understand others who think the same way. …In spite of that, after months of hearing nothing from them, it is so encouraging to hear from them and know that they are sharing your journey with you. Either quietly cheering you on, or being inspired by your decision to take action in their own lives. Very cool!
